Without children:

Here we come, gorgeous little boutique hotel…

“D’you fancy a holiday?”

“Yeah – where shall we go?”

“Maldives?”

“Okay. The Four Seasons looks amazing. I’ll get prices.”

With children:

“Shall we try and get away before the summer?”

“Sure. But your parents are here in the Easter holidays and there isn’t a May half term so that only leaves Feb half term.”

“Okay. Where shall we go?”

“Well, somewhere that doesn’t require malaria tablets and vaccinations. No overnight flight. Not too big a time difference. Direct flights only. Ideally not more than about seven hours as we only have 5-6 days max.”

“Okay. And hotels? Any thoughts?”

“One that has rooms that fit two extra single beds; or one-or-two-bedroom villas if they’re not too expensive. Or a hotel that can guarantee interconnecting rooms. Ground floor would be best. Not too near the bar so it’s not too noisy.”

“Good point.”

“And it has to be a hotel with a good kids’ club. That’ll take children from age three to at least 10 so they can both go. And that has good activities so they both want to go.”

“Right then….” [review list, sigh]. “Or maybe we could just drive down to Abu Dhabi for a couple of nights… the St Regis Saadiyat Island kids’ club takes them from age one…”

“Let’s do it.”  [Think: Sweet Jesus, when will it get easier?]
