‘Up all night to get some’
Given that Daft Punk’s song ‘Get Lucky’ has been the song of the summer, I knew it was only a matter of time before the children stopped bopping around the kitchen singing ‘I’m up all night to get some; I’m up all night to get lucky’ and asked what it actually meant.
I’d been dreading it. But we had a good run before innocence was ruined. The question came only yesterday. And I was ready.
‘To get what, mummy?’ asked DD mid-shimmy by the Baked beans. ‘Get some what?’
I didn’t miss a beat.
‘Chocolate. To get some chocolate without his girlfriend seeing.’
Raft of giggles from DD. ‘Oh cool. Up all night to get chocolate!’
‘Yes. Don’t even think about staying up yourself to get some. The chocolate cupboard is alarmed.’
I meant figuratively, of course. She’d do well to remember that when she’s a teenager.
