What I ate Wednesday

with 6 comments

I’ve decided today to leave the fashionistas to their “What I Wore Wednesday” (WIWW) memes. Frankly, my own WIWW is so boring it doesn’t make a blog: White cropped trousers, navy and white striped Breton long-sleeved tee-shirt, patent leather flip-flops, neutral Tod’s bag.

So I thought I’d do “What I Ate Wednesday” instead as I always find it interesting to see what other people eat in a day. People are also always asking me, “As a vegetarian, what do you eat? Pasta?” So, here you go – here’s what I ate today:

Breakfast

My day always starts with good intentions, but deteriorates by about 5pm.

6.30am: Filter coffee.
8am: Two tablespoons of low-fat natural yoghurt with fresh raspberries and blueberries and one spoonful of oat granola.

Snack

9.30am: Filter coffee.
(I had a Park ‘n’ Shop hot-cross bun at the ready but wasn’t hungry enough to justify eating it. It’s in the freezer now.)

Lunch

12pm: Medium-sized baked potato with cheese, and a small green salad with oil / balsamic dressing.
A small apple.

Snack

3pm: Cup of tea and a 1cm slice of Park ‘n’ Shop Farmhouse cake (non-nom). Not necessary, but utterly delicious, especially the crunchy sugar bit on the top. My justification was, of course, “I won’t drink tonight, so I have calories to spare….”

More snacks

5pm: One bag of Cheddars and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (my discipline goes out of the window around this time).
7pm: Another glass of Sauvignon Blanc (bored waiting for kids’ bedtime).

Dinner

8pm: Annabel Karmel’s vegetarian cottage pie* made with green lentils, courgette, carrot, onion and peas with mashed potato topping. Mixed side salad with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, kidney beans and balsamic/oil dressing.
One glass of Merlot (I hope it’s only one – I’m not quite there yet!).

How about you? What did you eat?

*If you make this cottage pie, leave out almost all of the sugar – it’s too sweet with it. I also add a sprinkle of chilli powder, and a few slugs of red wine. Mmm.

  1. I’ve been reading your blog for some time. It’s real fun to read it, you have a good sense of humour and a lot of distance to yourself, I reckon. Plus – lots of information about your place of living – totally exotic for me. Keep up the nice work!

    • Thank you so much! I’d better not tell you I’m about to take the children for tea and a pony ride at the Polo CLub, had I? But seriously, thanks for reading. I appreciate it so much xox

      • Actually, pony and horse rides plus tea don’t sound that exotic to me:) Sunny beaches do, though… Looking forward to more posts, all the best!

  2. I do the exact same thing. The cravings and pangs start around pm and even if I manage to ignore them, by 6 I have fallen victim.

Berries/mangoes, yogurt and a little bit of museli sprinkled on top is my breakfast. I even use a little cinnamon at times.

  3. Ooh, I hadn’t thought of cinnamon – that’s a good idea. Sometimes I use pineapple or mango, too – kind of depends what’s around in the shops. xox
