I Want ‘Fabulous’

with one comment

Polo - car‘I want Fabulous; it’s a simple request.

‘I want Fabulous; bigger, better than best.

‘I need something inspiring to help me get along,

‘I need a little Fabulous – is that so wrong?’

DD, aged four, prances around the house singing this song from High School Musical 2 at the top of her voice. I tend to join in with her – because, well, why shouldn’t she want a little ‘Fabulous’? I’ll be delighted if she spends her life aiming for Fabulous.

Anyway, these were the words that were spinning around in my head yesterday, as we stuffed the gas guzzler with children, picnic hampers, champagne, carpets and teak outdoor furniture, and headed over to the polo fields behind our house to catch the opening match of the new polo season.

For the equivalent of about a tenner, we drove the gas-guzzler to the edge of the field and set up our camp, where we spent the afternoon drinking champagne in the sunshine, watching the polo ponies thunder up and down, and delicately dipping strawberries into some rather yummy whipped cream while our children played around us, soaking up the rules and etiquette of polo as if they were born to it (well, I guess they were, really).

As the afternoon’s games drew to a close, we packed up the car and trundled the five minutes back home, happy, tired and giddy with fresh air.

It was a small, low-key excursion on a lazy weekend afternoon. ‘This is our life,’ I thought as we fell into bed that night. ‘And it really is pretty Fabulous.’

  1. This is indeed a great way to spend an afternooon. For just Dhs50 to drive onto the field, almost anyone can enjoy a bit of the posh life.
